UPHA
Chapter 5 Show
Mariways Stable was recently represented at the prestigious local UPHA Chapter 5 show by eight horses and 17 riders. Rachel Seaman catch-rode Tango with no practice when Tucker required sedation and stitches on Thursday morning. Rachel did a great job, and earned an excellent ribbon. Kristin Seibly debuted with her mom's pony Flash, showing against top ponies in a very competitive class, she earned a super fourth out of six. It was outstanding, as she was the only young driver against experienced adults and wonderful ponies. We are so proud of Kristin! Betsy Bartle provided one of the high points of the weekend when she earned a second place in the Pleasure Equitation 13 & Under class. Wow, Betsy! Amazing! Amelia Snyder did a GREAT job with Tango in both her classes, flawlessly executing the serpentine pattern both times. Lynn Martin provided another highlight when she won a great second place in the tough six-rider UPHA Challenge Cup class, catch-riding Tucker. Awesome! Katy Lark Young had an amazing ride in the Junior Exhibitor Country Pleasure Championship, placing ahead of two excellent horses. Way to go! Grace Linville debuted on her new partner, New York's Time Square, earning a great fourth out of ten very very good horses in the Junior Exhibitor Show Pleasure class. Wow! All of our Academy riders did us very proud. Joely Gage cantered on Tango; Katy Brady did an excellent job on Elliott; Anna Rademacher was a star on Maggie. Alexandra Odom handled the challenge of Maggie; Kaitlin Loman earned an excellent first and second with Elliott. Our six leadliners were all stars: Mattie Mills and Maggie (two thirds); Isabella Privitera and Maggie (two seconds); Taylor Phillips, awesome on Elliott; Kelcey Norton, super on Tristan in her very first show; Lana Seibly, wonderful on Tristan; and Rocio Chavez, excellent on Elliott. Way to go, girls!

The kids did a great job again! And in addition to riding well, the Youth Club held a Used Tack Sale for the benefit of Saddlebred Rescue. Thanks go to everyone who generously donated tack to the sale, and to those who purchased tack, and those who donated money. We raised $553 to save horses from slaughter! Rocio Chavez added another blue to her collection; Mattie Mills and Isabella Privitera also rode very well in the Leadline division. Kaitlin Loman rose to the challenge of riding Jack in the Walk and Trot classes, and handled him very well. Kaitlin also debuted in the Pocket Pattern class. Joely Gage showed her very own horse Tango for the first time, and earned two excellent seconds. Anna Rademacher rode Elliott beautifully, and earned a first place! Lynn Martin returned from her trip to win three more blues; Betsy Bartle and Jack won the Pocket Pattern class; Michaela Reed and Grace Linville represented us well; Katy Lark did an excellent job. Awesome job, guys!!!

February
14th Tournament
Another great tournament! The Mariways youth group was in charge of Valentine's decorations. The kids did a great job, with help from Mary Privitera, who provided hearts, glue and glitter. Other stables were delighted to find giant hearts with their names when they got to the show. Mattie Mills also contributed homemade valentines for the horses! Our parents also contributed enormously. We held a bake sale to support the food pantry at Abundant Life church, and the baked goods, gloves and hand warmers donated were overwhelming! Thank you SO much! Also thank you to everyone who helped the show happen by announcing, ringmastering, show secretarying, leading kids, carrying stuff, doing buns, and everything else. The show literally could not have happened without the Mariways crowd. And the results! We had a great day. In the leadline division, Mattie Mills won her very first blue. Lana Seibly added to her collection of blues. Isabella Privitera showed great courage and earned an awesome second. And Jaci Gage and Rocio Chavez were also stars!!! It the Walk and Trot classes, Kaitlin Loman and Alexandra Odom added to their growing collections of blue ribbons. Joely Gage won her first blue! And Kristin Seibly also rode very well. Mariways riders also did very well in the Show Practice classes. Grace Linville won 2 blues on Maggie. Betsy won with Jack, and Michaela added 3 blues. Katy Lark rode very well on both Tango and Theo. Amelia won the Pocket Pattern class in only her second attempt! The patterns get better every show. And Kristin did wonderfully in her first solo drive with Flash! Way to go, Mariwaysers!!!

The Royal girls moved up to the Show Practice division this year. Michaela Reed had excellent rides on Elliott and Theo. Betsy Bartle won the English Pleasure class with Maggie. Lynn Martin had a wonderful 5-Gaited ride on Theo, and a great ride on Tango as well. Katy Lark Young won a super second in a tough Advanced class with Maggie, and also had a great ride on Tango. In the workout classes, some earned top ribbons, but some had a total blast despite a competitive battle for last place! It was a very fun day. Many, many thanks to our awesome, incredible support crew of parents who helped with every aspect of the show from announcing, ringmastering, show secretary, ribbons, and raising money for Saddlebred Rescue, as well as helping with the horses and helping with each others' children. You guys are the very, very BEST!!!!!!

$251
for Saddlebred Rescue!!!
Thank you so much to all those who baked goodies to sell at the Saddlebred Rescue fundraising table at the tournament! We raised $251 to save horses from slaughter! Many, many thanks not only to the bakers, but also to Chris Niday for organizing and spearheading the effort; to Julie Minor for originating the idea; and to everyone who bought goodies and helped at the table last Saturday. Saddlebred Rescue raises funds to purchase horses at auction who may be headed to bad homes or to slaughter. Funds are then needed to rehabilitate the horses. Everyone who works at Saddlebred Rescue volunteers their services to purchase the horses, evaluate them, nurse them back to health, retrain them and place them in good homes. Thank you to all who support this worthy cause! The Mariways Youth Club is proud to be a part of it.

Our
Royal Riders
Our Riders did GREAT! at the American Royal National Championship Horse Show this year! Andrea Geis showed her horse, Rainwood's Sug Utz (Theo) in the Missouri/Kansas 5-Gaited Show Pleasure class. Andrea had a wonderful ride on Theo, and earned a ribbon! Last year when Andrea showed, she did not get to take a ribbon home, so she truly treasures her Royal ribbon! Rachel Seaman also showed Theo, in the 5-Gaited Show Pleasure, Rider 18-38 class. Rachel had the ride of her life, performing all 5 gaits very well, and winning a ribbon! Rachel handled herself and Theo very well, and far exceeded her expectations! Grace Linville showed her beloved horse Strider's Modern Bay (Tucker) in the Missouri/Kansas 3-Gaited Show Pleasure class. Grace handled Tucker well in both her classes. Katy Lark Young borrowed Joely's and Amelia's horse New York A La Carte (Tango) to show in the Missouri/Kansas 3-Gaited Show Pleasure class. Katy Lark remained cool, calm, and collected in her classes, and did a great job showing Tango in her first trip to the Royal. Amelia Snyder showed her fabulous New York A La Carte (Tango) that she shares with Joely Gage, first in the Missouri/Kansas Equitation class, and then in the 10 & Under Equitation class. In her Missouri/Kansas class, in spite of competing against much older riders, Amelia earned an excellent 8th place! Michaela Reed showed her horse Thunderstrike (Elliott). She unfortunately practiced Monday night in Kemper Arena while the live band was also practicing, which was overwhelming for Elliott. When Michaela showed on Tuesday morning, Elliott was still scared of the band. Michaela handled him beautifully, but was somewhat overwhelmed herself. She practiced hard all week, rose to the challenge, and rode fabulously in the 10 & Under class on Saturday- and won 8th place! Way to go, Michaela! Betsy Bartle showed her horse Callaway's Gideon (Jack). It was Betsy's first show out of Academy, and in her 10 & Under class, she earned an excellent 5th place ribbon, ahead of a young rider who has competed at the World's Championship! Awesome, Betsy! Lynn Martin showed Shamrock's Promenading Lady (Maggie). It was Lynn's first show out of Academy, and her first time cantering at the show. Lynn earned an excellent 7th place against riders up to 17 years old in the Missouri/Kansas Equitation class, and a super 6th in the 10 & Under class. Wow! Fabulous! I am so proud of these riders, and how well they handled themselves at such a major horse show. Please congratulate them when you see them at the barn!

$2,553
for St. Jude's Hospital!!!
Ten girls from the Mariways Stable Youth Club at Paradise Farm in Lee's Summit raised money for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. The girls agreed to ride for thirty minutes without their stirrups (a very difficult feat that produces very sore leg muscles!) to get pledges for St. Jude's. St. Jude's is a very well-regarded charity that treats critically ill children and charges them only what they are able to pay- many of them pay nothing, for excellent, caring, state of the art care. The Mariways Stable riders who raised funds were: Emily Payne, 13, of Lee's Summit; Jasmine, 13, of Lee's Summit; Grace Linville, 15, of Leawood, KS; Betsy Bartle, 10, of Lee's Summit; Lynn Martin, 11, of Lake Lotawana; Michaela Reed, 11, of Lee's Summit; Kaitlin Loman, 8, of Lee's Summit; Taylor Phillips, 6, of Lee's Summit; Allison Malcy, 13, of Leawood, KS; Joely Gage, 11, and Jaci Gage, 6, of Lee's Summit; Katy Lark Young, 12, of Fairway, KS; and Genna Wissing, 16, of Lenexa, KS. Every girl raised at least $150 in order to participate in the ride; Grace Linville raised the most money ($630), Lynn Martin the second-most ($300). Many, many thanks to these girls for their hard work supporting such an excellent cause!
